Snowball Pond

What are the tiny balls of snow on the sea ice?

  1. That's a curious and beautiful effect! I also love the colours of the sky that reflects on the bits of clean ice!

  2. A strange phenomenon. So they are balls, not small frozen waves?

    1. Separate a bit misshapen balls, not at all like waves.

  3. I read this http://www.wqed.org/birdblog/2014/01/28/natures-snowballs/ on a favorite bird blog today. Maybe it explains your snowballs?

    1. Wow, that looks really strange and amazing! Thank you for telling!
Our balls are much smaller and very close to each other, so I think they can't be formed in the same way as the balls in the other blog, but who knows, may be there is something similar behind all these balls!
