Tired alone

This small bird spent about one hour in place alone below our bird feeder.
It left then when the other birds arrived.
Is this a House Sparrow, though the breast is a bit reddish?

    1. Kiitos, niin minustakin, jotenkin kuitenkin myös vähän reppanan oloinen.

  2. Maybe it could be a Brambling if not a Sparrow?

  3. I had to google this bird, because I didn't recognize the name. Brambling is järripeippo in Finnish, and it says that these are common in Finland but they normally don't spend the winter here, still some of them do. So this could be a correct answer. Interesting!

    1. Must be a hardy little bird!
Finnish looks such an interesting language - I can't begin to imagine how to pronounce brambling in Finnish : )

    2. Haha, I would say that just like it is written, but I think it doesn't help you very much! :D

  4. A beautiful but antisocial bird. A funny picture anyway.

  5. oh! I love that kind of bird so much! I have only seen it once, in Northern Finland - I think it's normally found in the very north during the summer time, so this one might be on its way to Southern Countries. anyways, it's a really beautiful bird! :-)

    1. So you think Sian's suggestion järripeippo is correct?

  6. My friend, who knows birds, told me now that this is Common Redpoll, which is urpiainen in Finnish.
